Controversial Things From My Country

     The most controversial topic from Taiwan is nuclear energy. The side of people who  approve nuclear energy are thinking “Nuclear energy is more eco friendly. The greenhouse gas it produced is less than wind, water, solar and fire energy. And also, any type of energy will be wasted during the process of transferring. However, the wind, water, solar and fire energy waste five to ten times power than nuclear energy.”

The other side of people think nuclear is very dangerous. Since the event happen in  Japan, many people start thinking about the safety of nuclear. There are three nuclear power plants in Taiwan now, and the government is planning build another one. The disadvantages of nuclear power include: the storage and management of dangerous high-level radioactive waste. Taiwan government bury the nuclear waste in a island of Taiwan, and they only pay the resident there a little money. It is really unfair to them. Also, nuclear power is very expensive, and given the amount of time it takes to build nuclear facilities, people don’t want to pay that much money to get a danger energy.

To sum up, there are many advantages and disadvantage of nuclear. We have to find a balance between them and find a solution of this situation, hopefully there is one day we can have a cheap and eco-friendly energy.

     According to the article, there are 47% of Americans believe people are born gay, 33% believe homosexuality is due to external factors.

     The researcher asked a random sampling of 1535 Americans over the age of 18, only 13% of Americans said homosexuals are born gay, and 56% of Americans think it is due to upbringing and environmental factors.

     After 1977, the number of people who believe sexual orientation is determined at birth has increased.
   
     In 2011, 40% of Americans believed homosexuals were born gay, and 42% believed homosexuals were products of their environment.

     Frederick L. Whitam, who is professor in Arizona State University, think homosexual orientation is biologically based but that sexual orientation itself is also biologically derived.

    However, A. Dean Byrd, Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah, says:"The scientific attempts to demonstrate that homosexual attraction is biologically determined have failed. The major researchers now prominent in the scientific arena--themselves gay activists--have in fact arrived at such conclusions. There is no support in the scientific research for the conclusion that homosexuality is biologically determined."

     According to Gallup, more American subgroups believe that sexuality is determined at birth.Researchers estimate that approximately 1-10% of the US population is lesbian, gay or bisexual.
